In novel, there are two themes that I was able to pull out from the book. The first theme is, always believe in yourself. This theme suits the book because Miles need to find who he really is, and how he needs to stay true to himself. For example, "So instead I rolled my eyes and craned my neck back, my eyes almost underwater, until I saw that the shore-not ten feet away- was directly behide my head. I began to swim," This quote explains how Miles had to believe in himself that he was going to make it to the shore alive and he is not going to let this ruin his experience. The second theme, I believe that suits the book is, you don't truly know what you have until its gone. Its fits the book because when Miles looses Alaska he realizes how much she truly meant to him. For example, "And she was laughing, trying to teach me, make me better, promising to be continued. And now." (144) This quote is telling of when Alaska was teaching Miles how to kiss and the experiance they had together, which now over and the memory can never be replaced or replayed.
